Staffan Scheja ha debuttato all’età di 14 anni con Herbert Blomstedt alla Swedish Radio Orchestra. Dopo gli studi al Royal College of Music di Stoccolma viene accettato alla Juilliard School di New York e studia con Rosina Lhevinne, Ilona Kabos e Ania Dorfmann.
Dopo aver ricevuto il premio più prestigioso al Busoni International Competition nel 1975 si esibisce in concerti in tutto il mondo con direttori come sir Simon Rattle, David Zinman, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sixten Ehrling, Okko Kamu e con orchestre come la Munich Philharmonic, la French Radio Orchestra di Paris, la NHK di Tokyo, l’English Chamber Orchestra e tutte le maggiori orchestre scandinave.
Ha vissuto e ha tenuto concerti per molti anni negli Stati Uniti, suonando alla Carnegie Hall e al Kennedy Centra con la Oslo Philharmonic e alla Casa Bianca con Barbara Hendricks.
Ha realizzato numerose incisioni con EMI, BIS, Vanguard, LCM e ha rappresentato il suo Paese durante le visite di stato in Messico e in Giappone.
È il fondatore e il direttore artistico del Gotland Chamber Music Festival nell’isola di Gotland nel Mar Baltico ed ora risiede a Stoccolma, dove è docente e capo del dipartimento di pianoforte del Royal College of Music.
È membro della Royal Academy of Music in Svezia.

Staffan Scheja made his debut at fourteen with Herbert Blomstedt and the Swedish Radio Orchestra. After studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm he was accepted to the Juilliard School in New York, studying with Rosina Lhevinne, Ilona Kabos and Ania Dorfmann.
After receiving the highest prize in the Busoni International Competition in 1975 he has given concerts all over the world with conductors such as sir Simon Rattle, David Zinman, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sixten Ehrling, Okko Kamu and with orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the French Radio Orchestra in Paris, the NHK in Tokyo, the English Chamber orchestra and all the major Scandinavian orchestras.
He lived and concertized for many years in the US playing in Carnegie hall and the Kennedy Center with the Oslo Philharmonic and in the White House with Barbara Hendricks.
He has made numerous recordings with EMI, BIS, Vanguard ,LCM and has represented his country at state visits in Mexico and Japan.
He is the founder and artistic director of the Gotland Chamber Music festival on the island of Gotland in the Baltic sea and resides now in Stockholm ,where he is a professor and head of the piano department at the Royal College of Music.
He is a member of the Royal Academy of Music in Sweden.
